When we started Lauro, it was our mission to create a healthy, refreshing cactus drink that was free from all the junk in a lot of the juices and sodas on the market and still tasted great. We didn’t want to use concentrates or sweeteners and we wanted a product that was as pure as it could be. How hard could it be?

The fruit of the Prickly Pear Cactus has been used for centuries as a food source and as a natural way to stay hydrated, but most cactus drinks are made from concentrate. We source only the best Prickly Pear pureé for our Sparkling Cactus Water, and combine it with high quality Key Lime and Organic Blue Agave Nectar.

Prickly Pear

We’ll let you be the one to call Prickly Pear a superfruit, although with as many good things packed into this little fruit it’s pretty hard not to! Prickly pear or cactus fruit is the common name of the fruit that grows on top of the leaves of Nopales cacti. Spread throughout North and South America, about 200 different species of Nopales (Opuntia) cacti are found, all of which have some form of this prickly pear fruit (although not all varieties are edible).

Prickly pear is full of electrolytes, vitamins, minerals like potassium, calcium and magnesium, and a single serving of prickly pear can provide 1/3 of your daily requirement of vitamin C. Vitamin C can aid in collagen production in our bodies. Collagen helps our bodies repair injuries, gives us healthier skin and reduce inflammation. Our prickly pear puree keeps more of the good stuff than most cactus water concentrates, giving you all the goodness you need!

Key Lime

Yes, Key limes ARE different than regular limes (also known as Persian Limes). Key limes are higher in acidity, ripen with many more seeds but most of all, they TASTE different. Most of the Key Limes we eat come from Mexico and Central America.

Like most citrus fruits, Key limes are an excellent source of vitamin C. Aside from vitamin C, Limes are high in active compounds that function as antioxidants in your body, including flavonoids, limonoids, kaempferol, quercetin, and ascorbic acid. This combination of Vitamin C and antioxidants can help build your immune system and help fight again the damage of free radicals!

Organic Blue Agave Nectar

The Blue Agave is a succulent that has been used for centuries by the people of South America for the nectar it provides. It grows in rich and sandy soil, and it thrives when it is planted at over 5,ooo feet above sea level. Once the succulent has been harvested, the leaves are trimmed away leaving the heart, or piña, which is then pressed and processed to yield the nectar inside. When grown to USDA Organic standards, the agave is cultivated and processed without any genetic modifications or harsh chemicals.

Organic Blue Agave nectar is about 25% sweeter than regular sugar, so you can use far less of it to get the same sweet taste of other sweeteners, with less of the harmful stuff. Blue Agave contains saponins and fructans. Saponins are found on quinoa and many other plant roots, that have anti-inflammatory and immune system-boosting properties. It’s just the right amount of sweet for our Sparkling Cactus water, and we’re ok with that!
